News:

4/17/04-Big News - I'm going to start updating the whole site as we've moved & the tank situation has changed radically! We're now in a happy home on the beach, but with 2 tanks instead of 4. The 60 gallon reef and 40 gallon clam tanks both made the move. The other 2 tanks found new homes & owners (thanks!).

All I really learned about moving tanks is that its really terrible & should be avoided at all costs. We lost all the fish in the reef tank & quite a few corals. Fortunately the clams came through just fine and Pele, the remaining seahorse is living with them quite happily. We've taken this [ahem] opportunity to re-populate with a totally peaceful tank. My wife's been helping out a lot on the lifestock choices & the results are so-far quite good. It also really helped that she gave me a gift-certificate to Jeff's Exotic Fish for Valentine's Day!

So poke around, there's a lot of new stuff going on. Happy Reefing!

12/14/03-Got sent up to Monterey, CA for work. They've got a fantastic aquarium there showcasing animals found in the Monterey Bay only. My camera battery kinda crapped out, but here is a gallery of the goods.

9/27/03-So, big news! I got married on the 30th of last month & Lexi and I went to Fiji for our honeymoon. Here are some pix of the far side of the planet.

9/26/03-Well, things are still recovering from the Kalk incident, but I changed a lot of water and it seems to be OK now 3 weeks later. My levels are holding quite well, so I think the thing is dialed in now. We also got a new clam upon returning from Fiji. Meet Bula on the clam page.

8/15/03-The Kalk project blew up in my face... The Ms. Wages Pickling Lime finally came in & I added it to the reactor & forgot to turn down the valves. This is what happened.

7/20/03-Did some moving around about... Got 2 more bannerfish & all 3 wound up in the clam tank. We lost faith in the LTA & it's ability to stay put without harming the clams. So, the LTA & 2 saddle clowns got deported to the 20 gallon, hopefully theres enough light, day one looks good tho.. Also, some new shots of the clams & how fast they're growing. Oh, and 2 small tunicates too in the clam tank...

7/13/03-Some new additions, a new crocea clam & a juvenile bannerfish. Pix to follow. Also, my DIY Kalk-Reactor is now online, read all about it on the DIY projects page.

5/08/03-Well, the bubble-tip anemone split on wednesday, much to my (and the clownfish's) surprise! Came home from work & there were two? That's damn good salt is all I can say. Here's an image of the 2 of them. I've also added a new & hopefully growing, section for DIY projects. Please feel free to contribute!!

5/03/03-Did a 50% water change last weekend to try Marine Environment Salt, so far so good. Everyone seems to be responding well, went thru the substrate w/ a turkey baster at the time & siphoned out years of gunk. The only concern is the LTA in the clam tank who went from purple to pink color, hmm. Also - the Anchor Coral is splitting, quite exciting, see pic HERE.

4/19/03- Well, the new clam tank seems to be doing quite well. The long-tentacled anemone has setted into a back corner w/ it's foot in the sand smooshed between the glass and some rocks. The Xenia transplant looks about the same as it did in the old tank & the 'sushi grass' is growing taller, but not spreading yet. Clams are all showing quite a bit of new shell growth. Yolanda's green hilites are returning quickly now, still waiting for the bleached areas to recover though. The 2 clowns are going great, both love they're anemone & seem to not mind sharing - they still don't stray too far & that's OK with us & the clams. Lighting is on 12/12 for the PCs and the MH is on for 8 hours in the middle of the day, it has been lowered slowly to about 14" above the crocea clam (yolanda).
