Our greenest project to date! Overall we used 11 tons of recycled masonry, three tons of natural mulch, and the front deck was built with Trex (a mostly recycled plastic 'wood'). Even the driveway engineered product is 100% recycled plastic!
The project mandate was to create a water and maintenance efficient landscape, front and rear, make several seating options, and drastically reduce the ambient temperature on the rear patio area.
We removed turf lawns front & back, and the old cracked driveway, as well as a termite infested old trellis.
The design features a new front deck with integral seating and a view to the park. Features in the front yard are: a new pathway, a swing from the mature tree and a semi-circular formal seating area.
Featured out back are a new vine covered trellis to protect the main seating and eating area and BBQ. Another pathway connects a lounge seating area with three oversized chairs. Extending around the corner, the pathway reveals a fountain and terminates on a hammock framed by an old ivy-covered wall.
All new landscape is drought-tolerant, and several cutting herbs are featured. The patio includes four dwarf fruit trees as well.
The majority of the driveway was replaced with a drivewable engineered grass system. No more drainage problems, and the temperature stays significantly cooler due to the moisture in the grass.
